From RSS Feeds, I Discovered

This article was so eye opening. While in her classroom, she was able to be apart of a classrooms around the world due to technology. Being able to see how different school work will open up change for us in our own classrooms. Getting to see how other classrooms around the world can also help the students in their learning, learning from one another. Students who can teach others have mastered or know that subject well and they can only get better and help others. Also students learn better from their peers, having a student teach something to another student who has not quite grasped a concept will allow for more acceptance than us as teachers trying to reteach the same thing over and over again. While getting to be connected with another country or even a state is something powerful for students. They can get to know what goes on where the other students live and get them interested about the world and what is happening. This would not be the same as us a teachers just reading books or showing a power point of a place, this way students get to see other students and get to ask questions about where they live, making learning more fun for them.

I think that being connected around the world in the classroom is such an awesome thing that we get to do now. In my classroom I would be connected with another place because it will allow my students to be open minded and learn what is going on in different places in the world. Just like the author of the article she said something about how her students would not have been as excited about the volcano because they would have only read books or done some superficial research about the place rather than getting to really connect with them. This will get students excited about learning about new places and wanting to come to school everyday.

PLN- WHY

My Professional Learning Network

What does it mean to be a connected educator? Define PLN, explain your purpose or what you hope to gain. Set goals for yourself relating to a Professional Learning Network. (at least one paragraph that shows some thought.)

Being a connected educator is a very important job as an educator. Using technology to engage my students, using the most recent methods and making sure our students are learning. This ties right in the a PLN because within a PLN there is a group of teachers or learners who are going to work together to make each other better and share the ideas or thoughts on what is best for them and their group. Which has not changed from the past, teachers have always shared what they have learned with fellow teachers to make sure they are doing what is best for the students. Now with the PLN being more world wide or technology based, we as teachers will be able to share more of what we learn with more people than just the people we work around everyday. For me I hope to have a blog or a youtube channel where I can reach more teachers and really share what I have or will have learned in my years of teaching.
